St Joan

Three women are Joan, trying to save history from itself. An all-female company explores this hot terrain in a highly physical, darkly funny and entrancing work of theatre, delving into the heady themes of National identity, race and women as victims and makers of history.

Joan the saint was the symbol of the Left and is now the icon of the French far Right. But would Joan the girl fighter, with the voices of God in her head, really boot out the foreigners today? St Joan by British/French author Julia Pascal takes on and takes apart notions like National identity, purity of Race and the place of women.

Joan, Black Jewish Londoner, is portrayed by three performers, Géhane Strehler, Juliet Dante and Rachel Halper, in an intense, visceral physical production. They take on the dream of going back in time to stop history’s atrocities. Can they overturn its course? Can they save a life?

Pascal Theatre Company, ManyTracks Inc., and Add2 Productions are an all-women international collaborative between three producers from the UK, USA and Liechtenstein. St Joan is its first venture to take on highly political subjects and explore them in a highly dramatic, kinetic, emotionally engaging form of theatre. St Joan is topical, historically explosive and intensely visual in its performance. St Joan is theatre not afraid of complex subjects in a style driven by passion, emotion and humor.
