“'It's ok, no harm done. We’re not fascists here'”

Fear No Colours

‘It’s the same as always. It’s a farce I tell you. Going to be another dragging day.’

Somewhere in the unseen depths of a faceless government building, two individuals are turning up for work. One is right on time. The other is running late, as usual. It’s always the same around here. But they work hard, and they take pride in their work. Turn up, swap stories, tip, tape, fan and home. Same shit, different day, but it could be a lot worse. It’s a living after all, and at the end of the day, someone’s gotta do it. If only upstairs would fix the bloody kettle. But as the week presses on, and the illusions of these two men’s world gradually fall apart, they are finally faced with the possibility that something is wrong. Or maybe, everything is going exactly according to plan.

Samuel Skoog’s play is an absurdist take on the banalities of evil and the truths we invent to relentlessly rationalise modern life. Told through rapid-fire banter in a frantic, disturbingly comic duologue, it brings the styles of the classic absurdists to a late capitalist world where everyone is a potential competitor, nothing is gained without someone else’s expense, and truth is a commodity. Bucket Men invites you in to a surreal, humorously horrifying world of smiling pigs, sadism, big brother and of course, buckets.
