SUMMARY

Award-winning, gay, Aspergic comedian Robert White returns to the Edinburgh Fringe with a brand new show like no other, combining his musical composition talents with his well-honed comedy chops. InstruMENTAL is an electro-classical comedy opera of unbelievable, but entirely true, misadventures and misfortune.

InstruMENTAL tells a Stephen Fry-type coming-of-age tale in which a confused young gay man’s abusive “beard” situation generates an autistic melt-down, and a series of ludicrous misunderstandings result in a seriously daft criminal conviction and prison time. This previously untold, exceptionally bonkers yarn, as lived by Robert White and now shared through song, is presented with a Mozart spirit and some obscene notes.

Skillfully created and hilariously delivered, this outrageous revelatory story boldly explores homosexuality, mental health and the treatment of autistic people within the criminal justice system.

Robert White is the 2010 winner of the Malcolm Hardee Award for Comic Originality and two time winner of the Comedy Cafe New Act competition. Since first gaining recognition as a finalist in Hackney Empire’s prestigious New Act of The Year Competition in 2006, this music graduate come stand-up comedian has become known for his brilliant timing and distinctive performance style. His previous Edinburgh Fringe shows have garnered a string of rave reviews and his writing has been featured in Dave’s ‘Top 10 Jokes of the Fringe’.
