The Clinch Theatre Company

SUMMARY

Mopey is a severely anxious adolescent whose isolation is manifested visually as a clown. In this hyper-gendered, caricaturistic and garish world, he attempts to emulate the stereotypical man. Through physical and non-verbal comedy this clowning piece follows Mopey’s efforts to break free from his isolation; bodybuilding, watching pornography and attempting suicide.

Bristol based The Clinch Theatre Company are bringing their ground-breaking physical theatre clowning production up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer.

The Clinch Theatre Company aims to raise awareness of the mental health and social issues that spring from toxic and distorted social paradigms; focusing centrally on the stereotype of true masculinity. Mopey the Clown uncompromisingly subverts taboo; holding a zany, tragic and hilarious magnifying glass to the isolated millennial.
