SUMMARY

'My Name is Dorothy' is inspired by the story of Dorothy Lawrence, a British journalist who disguised herself as a soldier to go to the front in France during WW1. After her return, she was banned from journalism but wrote a book about her experiences which was published in 1919. Later, she claimed that she had been raped as child by a Church guardian and was consequently sectioned, spending the rest of her life in Colney Hatch Lunatic Asylum. Our piece - through a black and white aesthetic - is an innovative and experimental production, which explores how a cast of two can take on the multiple characters and forces within Dorothy's world.
