Ethrael Theatre

Aeschylus’s classic is brought to life through haunting music and beautiful dance in this unique adaptation.

Orestes, the prince of Mycenae, Argos and Laconia, has just slain his mother, Clytaemnestra, for the murder of his father, Agamemnon. When the Furies want Orestes’s blood to pay for the crime of murdering his mother, the gods have other plans. This original, musical adaptation of the tragedy follows Orestes as he attempts to flee the vengeance of the formidable Furies, encountering gods such as Athena and Apollo along the way.

The Furies combines haunting, originally music with beautiful dance in this unique adaptation. This daring and ambitious work combines imaginative lighting, a strong ensemble, and a well-balanced fusion of music and speech to create a visually and aurally striking performance. Originally performed in Durham Castle’s Norman Chapel, the production is now transforming C nova into an engaging, fascinating, and innovative space in which the Furies are brought to life.
