3Bugs Fringe Theatre

3 Bugs Theatre Company return to Edinburgh Fringe Festival with The Secret Garden. An enchanting blend of storytelling, shadow puppetry and handmade sets brings the story of The Secret Garden back to life one hundred years after its publication, a charmingly intimate reawakening of the beloved children’s classic for today’s audiences.

Sour-faced ten year old Mary Lennox has never given a thought to anybody but herself, but newly orphaned she is sent to a remote corner of the North Yorkshire Moors to live with her Uncle at Misselthwaite Manor. Mary spends her days exploring the vast bleak gardens and the rich secrets that hide within its history. But who’s crying can she hear echoing along the dark corridors every night? And why are the servants so quick to deny the sound?

Something tells Mary the Robin knows.

This brand new adaptation fuses the theatrical, physical and musical talents of the cast and has been devised by the company to create an immersive and sensory experience. The audience are invited to escape to the bohemia of The Secret Garden, to either reacquaint themselves with the magic hidden behind the walls or to discover what lies behind the key hole for the first time.

3Bugs Fringe Theatre is a student-run company from the University of Birmingham which consistently creates bold ensemble-based work. The company have developed a reputation for creating imaginative and varied theatre produced to critical acclaim. This year marks our tenth year at the Edinburgh Fringe festival.
