“What happens when a New York woman attacks a man in a supermarket? What if both of them are crazy?”

Funny You Should Ask Theatre

Laughing Wild is a two-person comedy which brings together a man and a woman with mental health issues and examines the surrealist nature of life in America.

What happens when a New York woman attacks a man in a supermarket? What if both of them are crazy? All “The Woman” wanted was a can of tuna, but when “The Man” refuses to move she beats him around the head with it and flees into a waiting taxi. This action triggers a course of events in which both “The Woman” and “The Man” begin to examine their troubled lives in one of the busiest cities of the modern world. Increasingly frenetic and hilariously bizarre, it soon becomes clear that these two strangers share a common dream - although not in the way that anyone could possibly have guessed.

Funny You Should Ask is a new theatre company with eight core members, which has emerged out of a close working relationship at Sheffield University Theatre Company. They aim to produce entertaining and thought-provoking theatre that their audience can identify with, staging shows that are both unusual and provocative, and running theatre workshops in their local community.

“We realise that we are only a small company, but we aim to involve the local community in theatre-making, and create polished performances that are intimate and enjoyable.”

Funny You Should Ask Theatre has staged two productions in their home city, Sheffield, in the run-up to the Fringe. The first, The Last Five Years, was a sell-out success, and the second, Lord of the Flies, drew a large audience of local schools to watch the recreation of this disturbing A-Level text. Laughing Wild is their first venture to the Fringe and previewed in Sheffield on July 25th.
