SUMMARY

In 2012 John Gurdon and Shinya Yamanaka won the joint Nobel Prize for medicine or physiology for their contribution to Stem cell research. They were attributed the prize for altering adult cells into stem cells capable of developing into all tissues of the body. This, as said by the Nobel committee, "revolutionised" science.

NOBEL uses imaginative staging and inventive storytelling to envisage the ramifications of this research. Questioning when Stem cell research will stop repairing and start upgrading. Interweaving narratives from the personal to the scientific, the piece presents a reflection on the effects of progress. The ensemble use everyday objects to create inventive stage images that creatively reimagine their original purpose. Supported by an exuberant and playful physical score, NOBEL interweaves science, technology and movement into a pulsating physical drama.
