SUMMARY

Written and directed by Derek Mitchell, The Gypsybird Speaks is underpinned by the mythology surrounding the rape and murder of a young woman, named Philena. Four disparate characters—a writer, a painter, a director, and a witch—sit clustered about the base of an enormous tree, bantering endlessly.

Upon the trunk of this enormous tree is emblazoned a triad of bloody gashes. Behind these gashes, within the tree, shimmers a great blue egg, revealed to the four by the strange prophet called Asphodel. She warns them of the forest's crumbling, a harbinger of darker events yet to come.

In three acts, the threads linking these characters are elucidated, and the question of 'the gypsybird' posed.
