SUMMARY

'When a man has lost all happiness, he’s not alive. Call him a breathing corpse’ (Sophocles).

After a string of 5 star productions including the sell-out Bluebird

(Simon Stephens) in 2010, Exeter University Theatre Company returns to the Edinburgh Fringe with this chilling drama by Laura Wade.

Breathing Corpses, Wade’s third play, made its debut at the Royal

Court’s Theatre Upstairs in 2005 starring James McAvoy, Tamzin Outhwaite and Paul Copley. It received critical acclaim for its challenging structure and bold engagement with psychological trauma using both humour and haunting sensitivity.

The play’s episodic format interlinks seemingly unrelated plotlines

through the discovery of a body: Amy, a hotel cleaner, Jim and Elaine who run a self-storage business, and Ben and Kate, a rowing couple on a hot summer’s day. Under such strain, the breakdown of their separate

relationships cannot be far away.

Admission: £8(£6.50)
