Caught Red Handed Theatre

SUMMARY

A contemporary re-imagining of John McGrath’s iconic 1973 play, the world première of this exciting production is the first joint venture as independent theatre makers from creative director Susan Aitken and writer Tom Chalmers, who have teamed up under the banner of Caught Red Handed after working together at Queen Margaret University.

Written specifically as a response to The Cheviot, The Stag and the Black, Black Oil, the play is an amalgamation of politics, musical theatre and comedy. It mirrors its source by exploring three harrowing events in Scottish history which have occurred since 1979, where 7:84 Scotland left off, to our present day. Weaving together live music, astute cultural and social observations, and some Donald Trump-ing for good measure what could possibly go wrong? As you laugh and sing along to songs laced with satirical takes on recent events in Scottish history you’ll find yourself asking who the joke is really on - could it in fact be the people of Scotland?
