Violetta is a tango singer is alone with her thoughts in a suburban bar. After an encounter in the street she is overwhelmed by memories of her great long-lost love and sings of the sacrifices she made . Alfredo, her lover appears in her dreams. They dance a heartfelt final tango before she returns to the reality of her life and the Milonga begins.

The storyline – an older woman/tango singer forced to give up her young lover - is very loosely based on Verdi’s opera ‘La Traviata’ and the show explores, through song, dance and drama, the mixture of Italian French and Argentine musical and cultural traditions which lie at the heart of Tango.

Opera singer Ann Liebeck, whose roles range from Mozart’s Queen of the Night and Donna Anna to most recently Salome and Tosca, contemporary dancer and baritone Nuno Silva (who has just finished a nationwide tour with his own show A Darker Shade of Fado and composer and bandoneon player with Tango Siempre, Julian Rowlands,(Olivier award-nominated for the score of Midnight Tango) will perform Violetta’s Last Tango at the Edinburgh Fringe 2014.
