Hypnotist Theatre Company

Witness raw imagination as it finds expression onstage in the mind of a girl whose past is dragged back to life

Hypnotist Theatre present Grimm – a fast-paced and engaging modern adaptation of the Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales, set in the mind of an amnesiac. A dark mystery devised from nothing by the cast, Grimm uses the brothers’ tales to explore childhood, memory and the danger of forgetting. It questions identity, personality and the future of a world obsessed by holding onto the past, and remembering what was perhaps best forgotten.

When Aoife wakes up she has no memory of who she is: at the GRIMM Institute they’re very good at what they do. But soon memories start to pierce through. As she watches, she can feel herself rattling towards the truth of her identity. But as Little Red-Cap, Hansel and Gretel and The Girl with No Hands bring her closer to understanding her past, the Institute do what they can to prevent it emerging, and bury it forever.

Hypnotist Theatre Company is based in Oxford and committed to staging the different and the dangerous. Previous work includes Steven Berkoff’s The Trial; Dawn King’s Foxfinder and Sarah Kane’s Crave. They are committed to the beauty of language. To the fantasy tucked away in the recesses of the mind; the tears held back; the anger repressed: tearing through an empty space with you in the audience.

Admission: £8.50(£6.50) – £10.50(£8.50)
