Playing Ophelia

Martin in "Something in it for Ophelia"

Theatre Alba

SUMMARY

Something in it for Cordelia is comic, yet poignant. Joan Ure felt the position of women with acute sensibility. Cordelia wheels her demanding father to Waverley station. In Something in it for Ophelia, Ophelia feels there should be more substance for her than Shakespeare provided. Both these plays, touching - as they do, with conviction, passion, and sharp insight - the sort of issues we call serious, do so with a continuous play of wit and fun, and often, a truly joyful gaiety.
