Schmucks Theatre Company

SUMMARY

Schmucks Theatre Company presents a visceral, visual and intense piece of theatre. In telling the untold story of the relationship between Lewis Carroll, his muse, and his manipulating, subversive creations, acclaimed writer Nathan Shreeve is certain that you’ll never see Alice in Wonderland the same way again!

Plagued by a troubled relationship with his young muse Alice, Charles Dodgson finds himself crying on some very unusual shoulders for support. A fictional interpretation of one of the most speculated aspects of Lewis Carroll’s life, The Carroll Myth offers an explanation for the destroyed sections of Dodgson’s extensive diaries, a period of the famous author’s life which has never been fully accounted for. Directed by Jo Gewirtz and Nathan Shreeve, and with a cast of wild characters including The Red Queen, The Mad Hatter and The Cheshire Cat, this original play provides a fresh perspective on some of literature’s most beloved and recognizable figures.

Having already had great success in the past year with a touring new writing event entitled 'Schmuck Off' and a groundbreaking site-specific promenade piece exploring genocide entitled 'The Greatest Sin of All', the company are looking forward to making an impact at the Edinburgh Festival with the new production of this exciting piece of new writing, which, when it premiered in 2010, completely sold out in a cutting-edge Manchester fringe venue.
