“sassy all-woman cast”

Class Stage Productions

Class Stage Productions kick off the Fringe with a

tongue-in-cheek glimpse behind the Premiership football

scenes – an all-female cast tackle five alpha male

characters whose life stories are told from the

substitutes’ bench

Immersed in sex, sexism, scandal and super-injunctions, a squad of talented

professionals slide from A-list demigods with hopes of World Cup glory, to

media-beaten has-beens. And while the match is being played, injury, treachery

and debauchery take over off the pitch. An awkward park-bench reunion years

later forces the players to look at Premiership football through different eyes.

Class Stage Productions’ sassy all-woman cast approaches On the Bench with

stylised masculine physicality and changing room chatter, making no apology for

being female in a show about what is supposedly a man’s game. Written and

directed from a woman’s point of view, Kirsty Eyre’s On the Bench addresses

the issues of celebrity, tabloids and the inflated wages that have become the

norm in Premiership football.

This year Class Stage Productions are performing their two brand new shows On

the Bench and Dances for Wolves back to back with the same five woman

cast, in a quest to discover whether women make better male footballers or

female strippers.

With over five years’ experience, Class Stage Productions pride themselves on

producing high quality performances on a micro budget. Shortlisted for BBC

Sharps, writer Kirsty Eyre has written and directed several plays including Happy

Chuffing Christmas, The Suburban Spaceman and Class, all completing successful

runs in both London and Edinburgh.

‘Eyre has a flair for comedy. Witty and beautifully observed dialogue at

its best’
