Lyrebird Theatre Company

SUMMARY

A playful, savage adventure for anyone who has ever felt at

odds with, or simply confused by, the world around them.

Lyrebird Theatre Co. has landed in Edinburgh, Scotland with their new show SHIPS OF SAND. After five weeks of intensive cohabitation and devising, an exploration of human survival instincts, societal organization, and group dynamics evolved into a story of a fantastical machine. A team of inventors trapped in an oppressive metropolitan society attempt to improve their condition by creating a machine to set them free. Are they happier in their dream world? Or is it merely illusion? An ensemble movement

based play for all ages. Lyrebird Theatre Co. created SHIPS OF SAND while living together on the Greek Island of Andros. An international company consisting of performers from Greece, USA,

England, India, Argentina, and Denmark, Lyrebird employs movement and improvisation to create poetic imagery and stories. Trained in a style descended from Jacques Lecoq, the company assembled at the London International School of Performing Arts (LISPA) under the direction of Thomas Prattki. Lyrebird strives for

simplicity in theatre that is grounded in a curiosity for life.

SHIPS OF SAND marks the company’s debut onto the world’s stage. Don’t miss it!
