Sans Mots

Thu 4th – Mon 29th Aug 2011

“Comic, poetic, surreal and surprising”

Cionini (Italy)

What can be said without words? Three different and original stories, four astonishing characters and a theatre transformed into an aeroplane

An airline steward entertains his passengers with the intriguing tales of a bizarre and eccentric prisoner, a marionette struggling against his puppeteer and the foolish director of an invisible orchestra. On this flight everyone speaks the same language as there are no words. The show whisks us through the blue skies of our imagination; the audience turn into passengers, flying over cities, above the clouds, hurtling through the barrier of language.

Sans Mots is a one-man show that combines mime, physical theatre, clown and musical pantomime. Comic, poetic, surreal and surprising, performed to appeal to children and adults of all ages and nationalities. It combines mimic virtuosities, performed to minute precision, with animated theatrical narration that never loses contact with the audience or the story. The steward transfixes his passengers from beginning to end, keeping them enthralled throughout their wordless journey. Matteo Cionini is a young Italian artist. Since 2002 he has worked as a street and theatre performer. He studied at a Lecoq-style school, Performing Arts University Torino, and has brought his street shows to many important festivals in Italy, Germany and the Netherlands. Sans Mots presents a departure from traditional mime shows, with a style combining Lecoq's teachings with modern audio technology.
