SUMMARY

But if you were part of a family like this, you’d want to. Festive Season depicts a vicious sibling rivalry stoked by a domineering Mother and a conspicuously absent Father. Can outsiders fix the problem, and at what cost?

Festive Season explores a dysfunctional family struggling to forge their individual identities within the hothouse of their own home. It tells the tale of two brothers who are trapped by the burden of responsibility for their mother. The play explores the futility of life and the endless self-perpetuating cycle of rebirth and death. But what would happen to the boys if their mother were taken away?

An absurdist piece of new writing, devised and developed by sixth form students from St Edward’s School in Oxford, Festive Season is a powerful play that is indebted to the stage metaphors of Beckett and the menacing dialogue of Pinter, stripping naturalism down to its bare essentials.
