SUMMARY

Belfast-based Wireless Mystery Theatre will be presenting a whole series of their live radio horror anthology show at the Edinburgh Free Fringe this August. ‘Broadcasting’ 18 episodes over ten days, Wireless Mystery Theatre will come live from The Globe Bar, Niddry St., at 3.30pm each day, from August 17th until August 27th, excluding the 23rd.

Set in 1946, Wireless Mystery Theatre transports the audience into an old-time radio studio to be AWED! and AMAZED! by faithful recreations of old-time radio suspense plays, complete with sound effects, live music, radio ‘personalities,’ and ads from the period.

Presenting two radio plays and a commercial break at each show, Wireless Mystery Theatre performs classic American and British radio plays, from the likes of Lucille Fletcher and Arch Oboler, as well as adaptations of famous stories from Masters of Horror, such as Edgar Allen Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, and E.F. Benson. These shows include such popular tales as The Tell-Tale Heart, Sorry, Wrong Number, and The Dunwich Horror.

Wireless Mystery Theatre was founded in June 2010 and has already made frequent appearances on BBC Radio Ulster and has worked with renowned author, Carlo Gebler. Their show was picked as one of the Belfast Telegraph’s top picks in last year’s Belfast Fringe Festival and they have played in many of the finest venues in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, from Queen’s University’s prestigious Council Chambers to a rain-soaked field in rural Monaghan.

“I urge you to go along: it could be the best thing you’ll hear (and see) all year.” Culture Northern Ireland

“The audience drank up the wry wit and bookish charm the Wireless Mystery Theatre have built their burgeoning reputation on.” The Big List
