“Emerging right at the epicenter of the News of the World hacking scandal, Ink sets out to deal with the hypocrisy of a national media. ”

Spun Glass Theatre

‘Ink’ by Laura Lexx - new topical theatre for the Edinburgh Fringe 2011 from an emerging figure in the world of stand-up comedy.

A desperate man is thrust onto a paper stage as media becomes hallucination and the personal nightmare of grief is exhausted for alliteration and the chance of a byline.

When reporting the news is a business, is there space for truth and a conscience... and when your life has been hijacked for a headline, do you play ball or beg for an exit?

Emerging right at the epicenter of the News of the World hacking scandal, Ink sets out to deal with the hypocrisy of a national media. Are we willing to accept that class, tact and morality are shed in exchange for tidy print over a cup of coffee or will we continue to accept hack journalism as a necessary evil for swift information.

The play brings you to Luca; an estate agent in a recession, fatherless following 7/7, and a crossword fan in an age of hysteria. Can he exist without media influence... and does he want to?

Spun Glass Theatre is dedicated to exploring personal protest through words and worlds. The company has a collective ethos enabling liberation from style that creates possibility. After forming in January 2010, Spun Glass Theatre created ‘Laura’, a distillation of Tennessee William’s The Glass Menagerie which met with critical acclaim at the Brighton and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals

“Ink” has already captured the imagination of the public, gaining well over its donation target on the crowd funding website www.wedidthis.org.uk . Spun Glass Theatre aimed to achieve £500 to help with the costs of staging the Edinburgh run, and claimed the money with 10 of their 30 fundraising days to spare… the total is still growing as this goes to press!
