The Offshoots in Association with Lancaster University Theatre Group

SUMMARY

The Offshoots (in association with Lancaster University Theatre Group) present, after a successful run of their adaptation of Christopher Marlowe’s Dr Faustus last year, another exciting performance, this time an adaptation of John Webster’s ‘The Duchess of Malfi’ entitled ‘Malfi’.

The stylish and infamous Duchess of Malfi holds herself with glamour and poise as she works through events of love, jealously and murder. Family feuds frame her secret forbidden marriage and inevitably her downfall from fame, fortune and power.

Taking influence from the suave and sophisticated film noir genre this production promises to see the story played out with style. Costume and set work to compliment the Duchess’ downfall and, with elements of physical theatre and a jazz soundtrack scoring the performance, the tale is enhanced and brought to a shady light for the audience, as they are invited to see the events play out before them in an original and exciting way.

A collaboratively devised piece, this show is an imaginative and energetic retelling of the classic story.

"A real visual feast...Offshoots may well become a force to be reckoned with." (Edinburgh Spotlight on Dr Faustus 2010)
